Making strawberry jam

While in South Australia we visited a farm that makes jams. Lumpy has asked if we could make jam. Strawberries were very cheap today, so we made Jam!
1kg Strawberries, 1kg sugar, some lemon juice
removing all the "green"
adding sugar to the pot
After leaving the strawberries and sugar to sit for about 45 minutes
Boiling away!
All bottled up and in the sink cooling
4 jars of jam!
Just had some on toast after dinner... MMMMMM = WINNNNAH

Make your own Apple chips

We love apple chips! but buying them often can be expensive and may contain preservative. This cheap and simple method makes YUMMY appel chips with nothing nasty added, and only 2 ingredients (ok 3 if you do the cinnamon & sugar seperate. It is also a great way to use up the last of last weeks apples, or when apples are really cheap.

What you need

Apple corer
and cinnamon sugar (or cinnamon and sugar) OPTIONAL
knife to slice apples.

wash and core apples, Slice so that each piece has the core as the centre.
place on lined baking trays (or sprayed trays)
sprinkle the cinnamon sugar
place in a 95 degree C oven for 2 hours.

all items gathered

Apples sliced, placed on baking paper and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar
2 hours later.....

Fizzy colours

Bicarb + vinegar + food dye = fizzy colours!
Sadly this activity was shorter lived than I  hoped for! after realising using a spoon was too slow, Lumpy decided to just tip the colours into the bicarb and mix! She did love that it fizzed and reacted, so atleast she noticed that!

Lumpy decided to just dump the bicarb into the colour!

Queensland museum

Lumpy is 'in to' dinosaurs at the minute - and is often 'rawr rawr'. The museum has an exhibit on with 2 replica large scale dinosaurs and eggs and foot prints, and the skeletons and random bones upstairs on another floor.
We took lumpy in to see them today!
